Right, I've read stuff on that other forum on ocassion.... I honestly can't remember if I created an account there or not, but I will say that I'm glad to say that I ound this forum shotrly therafter (it may even have been through that forum... my memory is shot with regards to that.)
Suffice to say it seems bad things are being done there and in hopes of reducing internet animosity I hope that we can put these things behind us. Long story short screw them and those that still frequent that other forum I hope you all PM those interested in straights to check out this forum.
Please though, this thread is only dividing us more from a forum that gets some good attention when it comes to "non traditional" shaving methods. Live and let live. If a mod reads this I think this thread should be closed, I won't submit a ticket though as I really feel that it's up to the moderators of this forum to decide how deep this rift should go.
I aske you all to stand down, this isn't a forum war, no matter how much I despise the circumstances that mike was thrown out for. If every non-banned member of SRP monitors the boards of a site that won't let us mention SRP... we can send a PM to them and let them know about our site.
If we can find creative ways to link SRP on those forums that wouldn't be offensive it would help.
Please don't ruin your credibility for Mike, ruin it for SRP. and SRP moderators, I ask again that you close this thread as it only serves to drive a wedge between sites of a common goal.
Edit: I'm drunk at the moment so I seem to think that I'm JFK

I for one think this thread should be allowed to play itself out. Here we can speak within reason without censorship or banning or post deleting or thread deleting. It is of course up to the mods to make the final decision on this and I accept it. I like this forum because we indeed have the freedom to express our feelings and opinions on a subject. Thank you SRP.

I'll leave this open. This kind of thing is a recurring problem on a lot of forums. As soon as a lot of people turn Mod they seem to think they're god (I've seen it on a bunch of Rollerblading forums as well...but at least most of the people there are in their teens...at least they have an excuse not to be an:
edit: Also. I still like this picture and I think it's a good reminder. I don't think any of us need to be like this. So instead of having it aimed at someone let's keep it as a reminder for ourselves.Last edited by LX_Emergency; 04-15-2008 at 06:47 PM.

Thanked: 2I will probably get roasted for this, but oh well.
did anyone actually read the threads that led to the bannings?
The RW review that led to papabull being banned started when Joel said RW razor was not worth the price he was charging. the jist i got was it was a good shaver just priced to high for what you got. then RW defended himself (rightfully so), which led to the s**t storm that got him banned.
The thread: is a str8 better than a de... the whole problem i have with what is being said here is Joel did not tell the guy to use a de not a str8. He basically said if you cant get the blade angle to work on a de you are going to have trouble with a str8.
and my thoughts on the custom razor thread over there. I feel that that thread was started with the intention of being a pot stirrer, just to ruffle feathers, to see someone get angry.
I admit the mood has changed over there in the last couple months or so, but i kind of thought it was just me losing interest. Then i thought maybe it was the surge in membership, maybe there was just a bunch of new people that wanted to blab about everything but shaving. Now i dont know what it is.
I know I have never had any dealing with Joel, but i can understand getting po'd when someone changes what you say, or a product is not what you expect.
Robert Williams from my dealing with him, he is a stand up guy. He sent me a str8 for the price of shipping, and i am grateful to him.
It is a shame the two of them couldn't work out a peaceful resolution, it is also a shame people keep stirring up old stuff, just to see some s**t fly,or to get banned.
Just my $.02
Thanks for letting me look around

Yes. Joel was a jerk. Someone had asked very benignly who were good custom makers. Joel said he wouldn't use anyone other than Ellis or Zowada, the others have QC issues, then someone said what about RW, and Joel launched into a hack job, and then RW very very even-keeled pointed out that Joel had tried to hire him and flipped when he said no, and then Joel made the famous juvenile post just calling RW a stone cold liar and poor artisan. It was embarrassing to read it was so juvenile, and none of it was necessary.

If you weren't following the thread live, you missed a lot, because the mods kept deleting things. That thread got weird, but it was one of many where Joel summarily decidied someone wasn't up to str8 shaving and told them to give it up, which is really a shame since the guy clearly wanted to learn and Joel's argument for why he should give it up didn't resonate with me or others at all. But then when others disagreed, Joel again launched and got very nasty for no reason, telling Mike he shouldn't be posting if that's his view, which is just assinine. The idea that you can't post if you don't agree with Joel is wrong, and that is essentially what he was saying. And in one case, someone pointed that out in a post and it was removed immediately.

The issue for me is that he appears to be using his bully pulpit in the guise of a dissatisfed consumer to trash someone that didn't do what he wanted in terms of a commercial deal, and that's misleading to people reading it that don't know the background. And some people believe anything Joel says so he has a responsbility to not emote (in my view). And beyond that, why be so nasty and say RW is crap when everyone knows better than that.
[quote=shaveme;196113]Robert Williams from my dealing with him, he is a stand up guy.
Correct. So why was he trashed? Think about it.Last edited by loueedacat; 04-15-2008 at 03:41 PM.

Forgive me for taking your post personal, but my biggest mistake was stepping into a s**t storm I knew nothing about, and when things didn't hold true to me I stuck my head up and said hold on.
I was met with nothing but hostility from the owner of that forum, and for reasons I was unaware of, or were out of my control.
Yes I fought back(in the straight vs DE thread), I told him he was negative and unhelpful, and if he couldn't be constructive he should leave.
and YES I told him to go shave his legs with his DE. So what?
Being a gentleman doesn't mean you have to bend over and take crap from every fool and drunk out there. It means you accept what you can for what it is, and you deal with the remainder.
No man should be expected to take abuse with impunity especially when it is dished out with such malintent.
I am finished with this, i have said my peace, and it is time to move on.
My appologies to Don, Doc, and Lynn for continuing this thread, but sometimes the waters need to be cleared before we can ride the next wave.
