As far as switch blades go, you can, or at least could, get them here under an M class weapon licence, but I think a one handed opening lock blade or an open assist knife would be faster. I can get my one handed opening knife into action faster than either a Mikov or even a De Shivs stiletto from a standing start. As Griz says..."Just sayin' is all"

I carried my S&W into the Texas State Fair last year. They finally made it legal. At the same time they were concerned that I might have a knife on me. I don't see the logic.

So the latest news on Sponge Bob Orange Hair, it seems that the breakdown was in the Mental Health arena.. The latest news this morning was that his Mental Heath counselor did as she was supposed to do and alerted the Threat/Risk Unit that he was perhaps a danger not once but twice... So now who do we blame ????

Remember my previous post about the legality of buying the guns see here The BATF 4473 Form

    http://www.atf.gov/forms/download/atf-f-4473-1.pdf

Question 11f and read the lower part of the form about what it means...

Again 11e probably was broken too by his admissions after the fact...

So is it easier to blame the evil gun, or the Heath Care professionals that did nothing because they might have infringed on his civil liberties, again the PC dragon raises it's ugly head...

I don't think anybody (or at least not a lot of people) is blaming guns per se.
You can't even blame the system. The system would have worked. People failed. This is a people failure problem.
However, even if everything had gone right, anyone going 'falling down' can make a huge number of casualties with some planning, like Breivik.

If anything, he was not thinking straight, which is why the number of casualties was much lower than it could have been. Because a crowded theatre with hundreds of people is like a school of fish in a barrel. Had he waited until the movie had started (so it was dark and noone could see), and then thrown pipebombs that would detonate simultaneously, the number of casualties would have numbered in the hundreds. And since noone would have seen him properly or had the chance to react, he could have just walked away in the ensuing chaos.

Btw, this is also my main argument that the terrorist threat is overblown, and used more to justify the TSA and the patriot act than anything else.
Because anyone with a modicum of funding, a handful of people and a decent planner / engineer could kill hundreds and completely disrupt society.

You really think all this stuff is to stop smart motivated terrorists? It's just window dressing to make the citizenry feel nice and safe and catch the stupid ones.

I don't think all "this stuff" is designed to thwart terrorism at all.

I think all the "window dressing" is simply to mollify the stupid citizenry that wants to be "tended to and taken care of" and more especially to deprive the rights of the rest of us that don't feel like willingly surrendering our rights.

I think I have to go with Bruno on this one, this guy was no dummy. Had he wanted to quite easily could've made bombs in which case the body count would've been much higher.

    Basically agreed.

However: On an international flight out of Phoenix last year, the x-ray guy did actually manage to locate a single 9mm round that had slipped deep into a fold at the bottom of my carry-on bag ... They didn't treat me like a terrorist, but I sure felt like an idiot (note to self: don't take carry-on bag to range anymore), and had to explain things to Phoenix Airport PD. They let me off, but coming back three months later, the customs guy sarcastically inquired if I had any guns or ammunition on me today.

Anyway, looks like some of these guys actually are doing their job...
