So many variables to this problem of a hot smoke. Tobaccos like straight Virginias and Virginia Periques can smoke hotter than burleys or balkan blends. Sugar is the culprit when it comes to how hot the tobacco burns whether that be natural sugars in the case of Virginias or added sugars such as many aromatics cased in a sugary based flavor. Your Vanilla tobacco may have this. Packing is important too loose burns hot and fast too tight may clog your pipe. Moisture matters as well too dry also creates a faster burn and too wet well can cause lighting, smoking and moisture problems. Pipe design also can effect your experience. Thin walled bowls heat up quickly and don't distribute the heat through out the pipe. And may not have sufficient surface area to let the heat go. Every pipe and tobacco combination needs to be understood and only experience can teach you this. Smoking too fast is common a mistake and some pipes / tobacco make it even more critical to take care. I struggle with this myself. I love Virginias and Perique blends myself and its hard to resist going hard on a bowl especially if you are really enjoying it. You have to teach yourself restraint sometimes. In the end you will get better flavor out of a tobacco if you go slow and don't scorch the hell out of it. @ Oustoura I would like to see pictures of the pipe you believe is giving you so much trouble. I'm curious why your getting tobacco in the mouth this shouldn't happen really. An errant particle or two may get through to you mouth but a decent pipe shouldn't do this. I'm sure your experience will get better over time maybe your pipe is in need of some attention or its just not a good smoker.

I've posted photos of pipes I've said were blond when they hadn't been smoked, and they took on color over time, to where you couldn't believe how light they had been. Here is a vintage Castello Natural Vergin shape 75 next to a brand spanky new unsmoked Natural Vergin 75. So you can see what I'm talking about. BTW, Vergin is not a 'typo', and I have spell check ......... that is the way that Castello spells it.

Jimmy, you have some beautiful pipes my friend.
My pipe today was some War Horse Green Plug in this Morta I traded a pipe for. I liked the tobacco and the pipe. The morta barely got warm to the touch.

Thanked: 1185Cornell and Diehl Billy Budd in a Peterson Kinsale. It had been a good long time since I'd smoked this tobacco. I found about a pouch worth in a mason jar in my pantry. It was like a visit from an old friend. For those of you unfamiliar with this blend there is a mild latakia content and a healthy portion of cigar leaf. This is Latakia done right (IMHO) used at the condimental level. The cigar leaf is nice and all the tobaccos work well together to produce a wonderfully smokeable blend that is at the same time VERY full bodied. We're talking pedal to the metal vitamin N here boys. This stuff with a strong cup of black coffee is like waking up to a jackboot in the keester. Even though, I'm no big fan of latakia blends, when the weather cools down I always seem to reach for one. I'll have to order up a pound of this stuff soon.

Well I have just ordered my first pipe. I went with a Missouri Meerschaum mini corncob, Sir Walter Raleigh aromatic, Captain Black Cherry for tobacco. I smoke cigs currently and am kinda hoping to get away from that. Maybe be able to slow my day down and enjoy a smoke rather than just inhale a cig and get back at it.
After doing a bit of research these seem to be ok pipes for beginners so I will find out I guess. Also if this does not belong in this section please move and my apologies.

I always recommend corn cobs for beginning pipe smokers. That is what I began with. OTOH, the aromatics tend to be laced with humectants to maintain longevity, and are generally hot and wet smokes. A natural tobacco is a more pleasurable smoke IMHO, and those have plenty of flavor to boot.
Just as we recommend blade sampler packs for beginning DE shavers, I would recommend 2 oz packages of natural uncased tobaccos (bulk) for beginning pipe smokers. Smoking Pipes .Com is a good source for ordering tobacco, also Pipes & Cigars dot com. Tobacco Reviews dot com will give you some info on what experienced pipe smokers think of various blends.
Finally, IME if quitting cigarettes is a goal a tobacco with plenty of nicotine is preferable. Lake District (UK) tobaccos such as Gawith & Hoggarth Bob's Chocolate Flake, Rum Flake, Coniston Cut Plug are examples. Old Joe Kranz is another.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
