Hey fellas I have a question, So I have been going at pipe smoking for a couple weeks now and I am curious as to why I get a bit of whistle from my pipe? I never really get it from my cob pipe seems like it is from a couple Jimmy was nice enough to send me that I have gotten smoke ready. I pack my pipe and do a test puff and all seems well and at the beginning of my smoke all is well then as I get lower in the bowl I get a whistle or maybe I can just hear my inhale? Maybe I don't have it packed well enough?
When I do pack I do little pressure and then slightly more then finally more pressure yet like I have found seems to be the norm and I seem to get a good test draw. Thanks fellas I appreciate any insight.

As the tobacco burns it needs to be tamped from time to time. I use my forefinger on my left hand, and the little finger on my right hand. They are so calloused from the embers that I don't feel the heat unless I puff while I tamp (not recommended) A pipe nail at a tobacco shop, or a roofing nail at a hardware is cheap and good for tamping the tobacco down. I may be wrong, but that is the first thing I thought of in regard to a whistling noise.

I was stumped on that comment for a minute, I have not seen Popeye in so long I forgot he used to whistle through his pipe. Thanks for the smile

Jimmy got me with his paneled Castello (envy), so back at yah JIM 😋

Sorry to say that the pipe on the right is not a Castello as nice as yours but a Mastro de Paja Media Unica Pesaro.
I'm always looking out for paneled pipes so if you want to donate that lovely pipe of yours Jim, please think of me 😍

This morning was comoy Lumber man deluxe, Lane bl wb if I remember right. And in the pic is my pipe tamper I turned on the lathe the other night I bought a pound of the lane tabacco and so far I have enjoyed it. It has a nice note in the bag but really no note when smoked, it's really mellow which is what I was looking for so happy I am. I also figured out I was packing too tight, after figuring that out my pipes have been more enjoyable. Have a great day and smoke fellas.

I know the feeling, I'm trying to talk an old guy into selling me back a pipe I let him have 8 years ago. So far no good.

Here is another 32 that I sold, regrettably, but it was so pretty I never would smoke it.
