Just as we recommend blade sampler packs for beginning DE shavers, I would recommend 2 oz packages of natural uncased tobaccos (bulk) for beginning pipe smokers. Smoking Pipes .Com is a good source for ordering tobacco, also Pipes & Cigars dot com. Tobacco Reviews dot com will give you some info on what experienced pipe smokers think of various blends.

Finally, IME if quitting cigarettes is a goal a tobacco with plenty of nicotine is preferable. Lake District (UK) tobaccos such as Gawith & Hoggarth Bob's Chocolate Flake, Rum Flake, Coniston Cut Plug are examples. Old Joe Kranz is another.
I'll check those out, I just kinda ordered what sounded good knowing nothing of tobacco. Figure I'm not out alot if I don't enjoy it but I believe I will I'm excited. Thanks for the advice always appreciate it. I think if I stick to it I'll go to a smoke shop and see what they have and maybe get some 1 on 1. Or I'll hit you up Jimmy Had thanks

Also after a bit of thought, should I maybe wait to smoke the aromatic I ordered until I get use to lighting and such?

I don't know what to tell you. I guess I would go to youtube, google, and read up on 'how to properly pack, light, and smoke a pipe.' When I started Weber's Book of Pipe Smoking, and Richard Carlton Hacker's The Ultimate Pipe Book were how I learned to do it right. Now, with the internet, you have a lot of resources to start you off correctly. Doing it wrong can be a miserable experience. Doing it right a pleasure.

Even with the internet, two great books. A must for all pipe smokers and especially beginners.

32 degrees outside, a real wood fire in the fireplace along with some C & D Mountain Camp in a black Castello Sea Rock 33 with smooth top.

Well smoked my first pipe today, captain black cherry out of a small corncob pipe. Took my time and at the end wasted a small amount of tabacco. I thought it was done so I learned different. Maybe had to re light like 5 times would get a few puffs and it was out again. Good flavor though and fun doing something new. Have a great day fellas.

Had half a bowl of Carter Hall in my Capri freehand in my garage last night. Finally got moved on Oct 31 and have been slowly getting all our stuff unpacked. Had a couple bowls of Carter Hall while I was in training in ATL last week too. Been busy lately.

After a time smoking pipes I learned that if I lightly exhale through the pipe, between puffs it keep the pipe going. Just do it very softly, you don't want to overheat the pipe. I always smoke them down to the bottom of the bowl. Harder for a beginner, and especially with an aromatic. The aromatics tend to have more condensation in the bowl/shank.

Since I bought 2 pipes I used one for each tobacco, I finally noticed what it was like to smoke clear to the bottom on the 3rd bowl throughout the day. When I nocked the third bowl out at what I figured was the end because I could get nothing to light it was all ash. I can see there is going to be some learning curve. I also stopped at my local liquor store/smoke shop and they had a few pipe tobaccos mostly smokers pride if I remember right. Nothing in small packages so I will have to check in Des Moines next time I am there or keep ordering on line. Wanted to see if they had anything non aromatic but it seems as though they did not. All in all I enjoy it thus far and will keep with it, I found also that the bigger cob pipe I ordered smoked a bit easier than the tiny one, also the bowl got warmer on the big one vs. the small one. Never to hot to handle just warm. I also through research found what you are talking about JimmyHAD blowing gently through the pipe or covering it with a couple fingers and puffing to keep it lit. Thanks for the help I always appreciate the guidance. Been looking at briar and brylon pipes a bit and can not quite make up my mind, might just wait til the first of the year to pull the trigger there. Not sure how much I want to spend just yet. Thanks fellas
