Thanked: 267I got my jar about a week back and have been using it since then. I think have discovered something. I was getting a little razor burn using this soap. I am use to using high end creams and tallow soaps (like Castle Forbes and tallow English Fern). What a bummer I though, but I am used to pushing things up hill so this was not going to be any exception. I have found that there was not as much cushioning going on with this soap exactly the same reason that I like Proraso so much. I lightened up even more on the pressure and angle of the razor and I am getting shaves that are astounding and after the shave my skin is feeling very nice.
Thanks for the tip of getting this soap. I am down to my last puck of English Fern and I know that it is necessary to start looking for some substitutes and this is a world class soap. I bought the jar and it is pricey but it is going to last me a pretty long while...there is a lot of soap in this jar!
Once again, thanks,
Richard

I receipt an email from Marie Amélie, the manager of Martin de Candre, in answer to previous mine message about this thread and other news about Martin de Candre products and services (the well known shipping prices, more expensive than convenient)
We thank you so much for your help, your good and right advices.
We have lot of things which are going to change for us :
- a new webmaster
- a new online selling from mid-june
- a new agreement with Post (we are having negociations to get cheaper prices for the transportings)
... all new except us and the products !!... Some people sometimes forget that we are a "home-made" industry, and only 8 people at working here...
Many thanks again and Best regards.
I think that there are good news for us. I have ask her in every email about the shipping costs, and finally I receipt a positive answer.Last edited by du212; 06-11-2011 at 01:47 PM.

Thanked: 267This is good news! Their product is superb and it would be nice if more people could enjoy it at a more reasonable cost. Between the two largest shaving forums that have been talking about their products lately I am sure that they are a little take aback at the response.
Thanks,
R

Of course the opinions of the people in some forums can be an influence, but we have to think that the shaving soap is only 1 product and the range of products at MdC is very wide. For the savonnerie the non french people were not the most important customers, their main sales were done in France. In fact, my first soaps are bought in France, because I live not far from the border and I can receipt the parcels in a post office, and it's cheaper than shipping to Spain. And a lot of french wetshavers and straight razors aficionados were using the soap before us, I discover this amazing soap in the french forum (coupe chou club straight razor club) . And it was because a petition of some members of this forum that the unscented version was created, and the members of the french forum were the testers.
I contacted Martin de Candre more than 1 year ago, and during the last months I have insisted about the service: the shipping, the web, the translations,....and I've given a lot of feedback to MdC, hoping an answer as this.
Then I understand the fast spreading , the soap is a great performer, and I think that is good that MdC take care about the shaving soap customers overseas....yes the forums of "passionés du rasage" (shaving enthusiasts), as Marie Amélie told me, are an outstanding phenomenom for them and they consider the wetshaving community very important.

Hello, du212:
This is great news. Thank you for your communication with the good folks at Martin de Candre. Now, if they manage to reduce the shipping charges, I can imagine they will get flooded with orders — most from me. Good work, my good friend.
Regards,
Obie

the website says it lasts a year...Is that with Daily shaving? I'm still new to shaving, but very curious.

Yes, bondpunk, it probably will last a year. You don't need much soap. I'd say maybe about 10 or 15 swirls of the brush on the soap is plenty to whip up luxurious lather that will last the whole shave. The soap also likes water.
