So how long ago did you do this? It's been a while!
I started this one quite a while ago, it took mr forever to get the one in the middle right. I finished it not that long ago.

If I could have found my charts, I could narrow the age down a bit closer to actual. As for the name ? Last part has been ground off.

I did get a bit of sanding in last nite, but the pics are from before I started. As you can see in the first pic, whoever started it, never removed the last of the pitting in the blade face's. Started on the show side with a quick hit of 400 - 600 greaseless, and I'm now hand sanding with 400.

    Its looking better.!

I found a listing for a William Ryals who made knifes, razors, pens ,etc in sheffield. But thats as far as i could dig up. Not even a date.

    Found a little more...

William Ryals is listed in the 1822 History, Directory & Gazetteer of York as a razor maker at Furnival Street, later in the*1828 Sheffield Directory (John*Blackwell) as a ‘Razor, pen, pocket, and table knife manufacturer’ at 14 Hereford-street.

Realized this razor had a very slight frown so I straightened it out as an excuse to use the new waterstones I've gotten from the guys here at SRP. I think it is made if adamantium cause I cannot get the bevel set!

Restoration bevel setting can be a bear. Mostly because we are trying to cut a complete bevel where none had existed. The other part that makes it tough is sub surface damage causing chipping until we hone past it. I sometimes hone first with an elevated spine and then a layer of two of tape.

Could not have happened without Shaun!

So I about have my Green Lizard ready to put together.
In working on it, I was interested in the differences in the blades.
The broken one is much simpler.
The replacement blade seems finer. Decoration and polish on the tang. Then, the Lizard on the blade.
I could venture the broken one made by Cattaraugus, the other by next-door neighbor, George Korn.
Just an observation. I have looked at too many old blades!

Anyhoo, After running the scales on the buffer a while, I said good'nuff.
The blade had some deep pits on the tail. Sanded them until I said it again.

I enjoy this stuff as I don't get too picky.
I have come to realize that as it gets done and out from under bright lights in pieces,
Looks pretty good! Old stuff anyway.

Got my collars polished. Rubbed the original spacers on fine abrasive as they will show through the scales. Rubbed the lizard with the black soft wax outback so generously sent to me.
Made it show-up better. Assemble to-morrow!
