Thanked: 4206Pinned up and ready for the stones.
Had to use collars after all. Would have smashed the spike head at the pivot end all to heck trying to go flush. And the finish is a little dull at the pivot, maybe the urethane doesn't penetrate evenly into the stabilized burls. Not sure. More experimentation to follow.
Waiting on some knots still, as I intend to make a matching brush for this one like I did for that red one I did last month.
The stuff is delicate, like ivory, to work with, but I am happy I tried to make one sans liner.
Needed to be thicker to compensate, but it still turned out pretty well.
Cheers men, and thanks for looking, and the comments along the way.

Thanked: 4827I'm not sure where to start.
B52 that is looking nice! I love the wedge matching the urethane. It looks pretty spectacular.
Mr Clean that is a pretty great save. I love before and afters but never think to shoot the before. Are your scales lined?
MW76, what all did you do with the scissors? I don't know how to sharpen scissors. I wonder who's makers mark is on them. It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

Mike, your scales look great on that Spike. They turned out very very nice. I like them better than the red ones.

The one you sent me is awesome, Mike.
However I am worried about the same thing. The pivot has become quite loose in a short time and I am afraid to peen the top for this reason.
Seems the wedge end has separated a tiny bit. A bit of gap opened-up between the liners and the wedge.
Ain't no way I am hitting on those flush collars!
I am leaning toward unpinning the whole thing and try some of Babur's inner collars down to the liners like I have done in the past with wood, pearl and delicate materials.
Question is, are the pin-holes 1/16 in the liners?

Thanked: 4206Yes, the original holes were 1/16th through the liners Tom so repinning can be done.
Yours was collared at the pivot I believe so should take a re tightening without issue. The wedge end is flush so will be harder to drill out. Downside to flush fit that is for sure.
Seems the Gilchrist worked itself loose a bit Mike was telling me as well so I may need to work on my initial peening some before saying things are done..

I believe the other side says 'Micheal something' from Brooklyn NY (ill chk when I'm home tonight). I started to sharpen them but after looking up details on shear sharpening I'm holding off till i do some more reading. They will cut but they aren't the smoothest scissors in the world right now. I'm gonna do some more research tonight.
