As Shaun said, very similar to wood in carving, sanding, etc.
Smells like burnt hair while working it so use ventilation/respirator. No finish required is kind of nice too, but I usually hit it with some finishing wax just to shine it up some.
    Cheers.

I have always loved working with horn. As mentioned it sands nicely & once sanded in progressions can be polished up very nicely.

This seller often has nice size horn blanks at reasonable prices and reasonable shipping.

Just bought 3 slabs of dark horn at a super price from seller ajkenne4xm3 on EBay. He is a member here also. Has some nice honey horn for sale and people here seem to like his pinning washers as do I. Bought some of his bullseye washers and they like really nice on old Sheffield razors.

Edit: sorry, just noticed you are not in US! RezDog is on it!!

I just did a minimal cleanup since I didn't want to mess up the shave ready edge. Clever use of lighting in the SOTD pic helped hide signs of honest use. During the minimal cleanup I used my Dremel for the first time. The nylon bristle wheel (not sure of the real name) was really handy to get at the corner where the blade meets the tang. The resulting shave was really sweet. I highly recommend trying one of these out if you get the chance.

    OHTAY!
My quacked-up blade is done, so some light buffing, Maas on the scales got most scratches out and they are slathered in some wet silicone for now.

Using a pre-peened stainless pin, I chucked one of Ajkeene's collars backwards in my pin-vise and touched it on a fine grinder stone, then on a flat piece of sandpaper.

After a trip to the buffer, I turned the collar around and buffed the outside.

The inside is more flat and smooth , the collar is a bit shorter. Should work a treat.

Three more collars to prep. Perhaps I will get this thing going to-day?

Some of you can restore a razor in 2 days. Seems to take me 2 weeks!

It takes you so long because you are always fussing with polishing the collars and watching the silicone dry. You do nice work, not much but nice. HAR HAR
