No offence taken, Steve as you apparently have not remembered right! The Torrey, BTW, looks good.
My reference to a 'no-no' above was to floating pivot bushings and stainless blade spacers.
Just a mile off, that's all!
Besides, a 'NO-NO' for me is usually a 'YES-YES" to lots who hear my advise and go the complete opposite direction!
I often lament how 'Don't listen to me' is written across my forehead and everyone can see it except for me!"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

Thanks Tom. Yeah, I most likely didn't remember right since I have a ton on my mind right now! That 2nd pic looks like a flat spot on the peening but it isn't, it just looks like it. I know what I was trying to say, it's an optical illusion. When I first unpinned that razor & took a different blade off, the scales weren't matching meaning the pin was bent or the scales were defective but it turned out that someone had repined it because it had collars on it & they had bent the pin. It looks great now.

There are some woods that will take a mirror like finish from sand paper alone. I've been sanding all day (I'm a slave to detail) and wood is African Blackwood. The really dense woods will look so shiny when taken to 12000 grit that they will look plastic shiny. Some woods need no finish, perhaps just Renwax. Other woods require finish. I use sand paper from H. Depot, the stuff that says "lasts 15x longer" really is good.
Then I take it in a progression to 12K with micro-mesh.
If you like that shiny look you can go with CA. It gives that shiny look yet some don't like it because of a plastic-like feel.“You must unlearn what you have learned.”

What is CA?
African Blackwood sounds nice, I will Google it.
I did some traveling today to find some 400 grit wet n dry paper .
I went to a Hobby Superstore ,no luck
Next a D.I.Y mega store, no joy.
Finally a polish decorating shop had some.
In London you either find an Automotive shop or get on Ebay.
I will research long lasting glass paper, see what I can find.
I have spent all night sanding this 6/8ths. Nearly all the pitting has gone but there was a crease ,like where the forger had folded the metal , from the pivot hole to the end of the tail. It had to go and it has done.
I have some Horn scales for this blade (not keen on horn either) they smile but the blade is straight so its kinda wrong (to me) but at the moment its all I have.

CA is Cyanoacrylate : super glue.
It can be found at wood working stores. But the best is probably eBay. It's just easier for me to click and order than to drive long distances.
There are other finishes that are fine too.
Micro-mesh I get off the Bay too.
As you go along, you will develop tools that are more ergonomic. Geezer has some great ideas on useful tools and he is very clever and knowledgeable with that area. Might want to look at those posts. Let me see if i can dig up the link.

I was speaking yesterday with a guy I work with occasionally, and in passing I mentioned SRs as a hobby of mine and that I was becoming fonder of the older ones, but they were hard to get and often expensive. He replied that "he didn't know anyone who used SRs but when he and his wife travel to London, they see dozens of old ones in antique shops. He went on to say, they must have made a lot of good ones in Sheffield, because that's how most of them are marked, and they look remarkable for their age." I was grinding my teeth, and asked him to let me know then next time he was going to travel there, and I'd give him some money, and a list of desirables. Maybe you just have to be in the right place at the right time.
