That is going to be a challenge but fortunately you have a lot of steel to work with.

Yeah Tony, it's a heavy blade. I figure, so far, I'll work the edge a little bit & get it straight or maybe with a slight swoop at the toe, cut it & make it a Spanish point.

That's gonna be really nice after its done. Good choice on the tip. I think it will work out, sometimes it's hard for me to decide on how to fix/shape the new tip..

I like that one Steve has, always wanted one and the SR gods answered my call in that big lot, I'll post a pic tonite.
    Has the eagle on it.
The one I posted was "manufactured for Henry Sears"
That "for" got me thinking.. did W&B possibly produce it for them?

    Got a scale finish question.
I've had good results with getting CA just right, BUT I always sanded to 400 grit and then applied it.
What if you sanded to a much higher grit?
    What would change?

Edit: we know there would be less mechanical adhesion.
    But what about looks?

Referring to the pen finishes, as well as scales I do with CA I have sanded up to 3600 grit before applying the CA. Used the thin stuff, then medium, and the end results looked the same as if I stopped at 400 grit before applying the CA.
My thinking is since the CA seals and then builds up on the surface, and it is the CA we are shining up after we build said layers, anything after 400g is sort of a waste of effort and paper.
I take my base to 400 grit now and then switch. Making sure my last pre CA sanding is always with grain to ensure all circular sand marks are gone. Build up my 2 layers of thin, then 2-5 layers of medium with a sanding step after the first two thicker applications. Once happy I run up through the micromesh to 6, or 8, or 12k depending on the wood grain and final shine I am after.
    YMMV.
