Very excited about this super find from eBay in Spain, was getting worried, but this Palmera 14 finally arrived, huge blade, can see what I think is some type of "hamon" line, probably it's bellied grind which I can feel but not necessarily see, and these original scales appear to be made of wood, one pin scale, very solidly built, going to hit it with some sandpaper, start at 800 grit and there's more staining it seems than actual rust.
Will be cleaning this up tonight and trying to hit the hones by tomorrow.

Thanked: 4206Beauty of a Palm Andrew!
Huge and unchipped. Should clean up quicker than a newborn's backside.
Look forward to seeing the results."Depression is just anger,, without the enthusiasm."

Geez, Phrank, that's a beauty! ebay Spain, eh? Hmmm. Looks like collarless pinning on the wood scales from here, or maybe it's there are tiny collars there, looks nice.
I tried repainting the tang stamp on the Hess "Otto's Special Wedge" to get the red a little brighter. I tried a coat of white first, then a coat of red but the stamp is shallow and the white pretty much filled the lettering so that a lot of the red top coat had no recesses to go in. So, I removed all of that and tried just straight red again with a little better success than before. I lightly wet small pieces of printer paper with acetone and used that to wipe the excess paint away, left the stamp filled right up with paint."Go easy"
